Universal EOD Approach Rules
- NEVER approach until positive identification
- Establish exclusion zone based on largest possible NEQ
- Check for anti-handling features before any movement
- Electronic fuzes (FMU-139, UMPK, JDAM) may have anti-disturbance
- Thermobaric duds (ODAB) -- NO ignition sources; fuel vapor hazard
- Cluster submunitions -- assume ALL are armed; mark and avoid
- Guided bomb duds -- thermal batteries may still be active; electronics hazard
- Penetrator duds (BLU-109, BETAB) -- assume deep burial; delayed fuze
