82mm Mortar Rounds

O-832 -- High-Explosive Fragmentation

Dud Behavior

  • Common failure modes: Fuze striker did not release (insufficient setback from low charge); fuze detonator failed; soft ground absorbed impact without triggering PD fuze
  • Critical warning: Armed fuze with failed striker release -- creep spring is only remaining safety. Any vibration, tilt, or handling may cause detonation.

EOD Hazard Warnings

  • NEVER attempt to remove fuze from a dud mortar
  • Fuze sensitivity: PD fuzes (M-1, M-4, M-6) are extremely impact-sensitive when armed
  • Cast iron body produces irregular, razor-sharp fragments at high velocity
