MASTER ORDNANCE IDENTIFICATION DECISION TREES
Version: 1.0 Date: 2026-03-28 Purpose: Structured visual identification guide for the ordnance identification agent. Each tree walks through discriminating visual and contextual questions to narrow an unknown ordnance item to a specific identification.
SAFETY WARNING: This decision tree system is for IDENTIFICATION ONLY. It does NOT replace official EOD technical publications. Always refer to current 60-series pubs, JODIC, and applicable TMs for render-safe procedures. When in doubt, withdraw and call higher. NEVER approach, touch, or disturb unidentified ordnance.
AGENT INSTRUCTIONS: At each decision node, evaluate the visual evidence from the image. If a feature is ambiguous, follow BOTH branches and present the user with discriminating follow-up questions. Always include confidence levels and safety warnings. If at any point a STOP-HAZARD warning is reached, present it IMMEDIATELY before continuing identification.

These warnings apply regardless of identification outcome:
STOP-HAZARD Trigger Conditions
The agent MUST present these warnings IMMEDIATELY when detected, before continuing identification:

APPENDIX E -- DECISION TREE USAGE PROTOCOL
For the Identification Agent:
- Start at TREE 1 (Master Category) for every new identification request.
- Follow the branching logic using visual features from the submitted image.
- When ambiguous, follow BOTH branches and present the user with the specific discriminating question that would resolve the ambiguity.
- Present STOP-HAZARD warnings IMMEDIATELY when any trigger condition is detected -- before continuing identification.
- State confidence level at every identification output.
- Cross-reference the final identification against the database documents listed in Appendix D.
- If LOW confidence or INDETERMINATE, ask for:
- Additional photos from different angles
- Close-up of nose/fuze section
- Close-up of markings/stenciling
- Measurement against reference object
- Context: where found, what else is nearby, operational environment
- Never present a single identification as definitive at LOW confidence. Always present alternatives.
- Always conclude with the safety warning appropriate to the identified item.
